In the past, I struggled to let the men I dated to do things for me. One of the biggest reasons was guilt. I didn't want them to feel like I was using them if the relationship didn't work out. In the early stages of dating, I also worried that accepting their generosity would make them think I was a gold digger. I was so worried about being perceived as a gold digger that I felt I had to prove a point that I was not one.

Today, I no longer care whether the men I'm dating think I'm a gold digger or not. I've learned that I can't control other people's perception of me. Ladies, many men genuinely enjoy feeling needed and having the opportunity to provide. Are you an independent woman who struggles to receive? If so, I encourage you to do the shadow work and ask yourself why. The reason may be completely different from mine, but understanding the root of it is the first step toward healing.

Asking for help doesn't mean that you are dependent. You can be an independent woman and still be okay with receiving. One of the fears I had to work though was the fear of rejection. For example, if I needed help and I knew that he can help me, I was afraid that asking would scare him away. Even when I was moving, I hesitated to ask for help because I didn't want to feel like a burden. Over time, I found the courage to ask when I genuinely needed support. I realized that asking isn't the problem but it's being attached to the outcome. People have the right to say yes or no, and we should respect their decision without feeling entitled to their help.

If you're dating someone who is capable of helping you but consistently chooses not to, pay attention to that. It may simply mean that he isn't the right person for you and that's okay. Respect his decision, respect yourself and move on.

What is shadow work and how is it going to help you?

Shadow Work is the process of looking at the hidden beliefs, fears and wounds and it will help you with feeling comfortable with receiving.

The " Shadow" is not the bad part of you. It is the part of you that learned to protect you.

For example, an independent woman may have a shadow belief like:

  • "If I need someone, I will be disappointed."

  • " I have to do everything myself to be safe"

  • "Receiving makes me weak."

  • "if Someone helps me, I owe them something."

Shadow Work helps you ask: Where did I learn this? because trust me you didn't just wake up and decide that you don't want help when people offer.

Below I have added a Shadow work Journal and workbook that will help you not only with receiving as an independent women but with other aspects of your life. You can never go wrong with Shadow work.

Why Men Love B*tches teaches women to stop being doormats, set healthy boundaries and value themselves. Pair thoses lessons with a dress that make you feel confident and nothing screams confidence like a red dress but also remember that true confidence comes from knowing your worth, while the right outfit simply reflects it. When you feel good on the inside and express it on the outside.

5 signs you're ready to receive love

  1. You can accept help without guilt

  2. You communicate your needs

  3. You don't see vulnerability as weakness

  4. You allow someone to contribute

  5. You don't try to prove that you can do it all

Remember, learning to receive doesn't happen overnight. Just like setting boundaries, building confidence and healing old wounds, it takes practice. There may be times when you catch yourself slipping back into the habit of doing everything on your own and that okay. Growth isn't about getting it right every time, it's about choosing to keep trying.

Allow yourself to receive without guilt, without fear and without feeling like you have to earn it. You deserve support. You deserve kindness. You deserve love.
